A busy family of five in Arlington, VA, is seeking a reliable and organized Family Assistant to help manage daily household operations. The household includes three children (ages 9 months, 3 years, and 8 years), and a full-time nanny live-in is already in place to focus on childcare. The Family Assistant’s primary responsibilities will include cooking, laundry, home organization, light housekeeping, and running errands for the family. However, we are seeking a professional that enjoys children and has some experience with caregiving. This role is ideal for someone who is proactive, detail-oriented, and passionate about creating a smooth running home environment.
Key Responsibilities:
Meal Preparation: Plan, prepare, and cook healthy dinners and snacks for the family. The family prefers an assistant who is experienced with meal planning and cooking; that can grocery shop and provide healthy meals for the family, as well as prepare occasional lunches for the parents, and healthy snacks for the kids.
Laundry: Manage the family’s laundry, including washing, folding, and organizing clothing and linens.
Home Organization: Maintain an organized and functional home environment, including tidying common areas and ensuring everything is in its proper place. Will be responsible for restocking items throughout the home, and ensuring functional systems are in place.
Light Housekeeping: Perform light cleaning tasks as needed (e.g., wiping down surfaces, tidying up after meals, sweeping floors, making beds, taking out trash and recycling). Note: A professional cleaning team handles deep cleaning twice a month.
Running household and family errands: Running household errands such as taking dry cleaning, grocery shopping, returning or shipping items, etc.
Managing contractors: Managing lawn care team, cleaning team, and other contractors that are needed in the home.
Limited childcare duties: There is a full time nanny that is responsible for all childcare needs for the family; however, there will be some occasional duties that require comfortability and experience with children such as: watching the baby monitor while baby naps and the nanny drives to pick up toddler from school; occasional dropping off 8 year old to an after school activity should the nanny be occupied with baby and toddler.
Qualifications:
Strong organizational and time-management skills.
Excellent cooking skills and comfortable with meal planning and cooking healthy, family-friendly meals.
A proactive, can-do attitude with the ability to work independently.
Discretion and respect for the family’s privacy.
Experience with children; Must be comfortable with baby, toddler, and young child; Joyful and patient demeanor
Valid driver’s license and clean driving record; must have a reliable car
Excellent, verifiable references
3+ years experience as family assistant, home manager, etc.
Good communicator
Other:
Open to some travel or overnight (not required): Family has a vacation home on the eastern shore and frequently visits over the summer. Added bonus of the family assistant’s willingness to come along occasionally for overnight or commute a day or two a week (1 hour 15 minutes from Arlington Virginia).
Schedule: Full time; Monday–Thursday, 9:00 AM–6:00 PM; Must be open to occasionally flexing some hours on Friday morning.
Compensation: $30–$40 per hour, depending on experience
